Before starting the process, choosing a good location is the most important thing. When considering a location choose an area that can be cleaned easily as tie-dyeing is a messy job.

1. You can begin by washing the fabric to eliminate any residues or manufacturing chemicals. Without this step, the dye cannot penetrate nicely. Before dyeing, the next step is drying the material fully.

2. Folding and tying the fabric as needed is the next step.

3. Apply protective barriers on your dyeing surface, like tarps or garbage bags. Remember to protect your hands with rubber, latex or vinyl gloves from staining will.

4. Pre-treating the fabric should be done as instructed in the product manual of the dye.

5. Next process is dipping your fabric into the dye. To get multiple colors, first use the lightest one and rinse between colors. You can re-tie the same fabric and re-dipped to get another pattern.

After drying completely, remove the ties and take a look at your artwork. You should wash it several times before washing it in a machine. Squeeze the material after every wash to release the dye. Wash again after releasing the dye.
