How To Make a Computer Faster
If your computer is running much slower than when you first bought it, then there are a few things you can do. First, it could be that a program you've installed is running in the background, which is slowing down the system. To see what programs are running, you can click the keys CTRL, Alt, Delete simultaneously and this will bring up the task bar to show you all the programs and processes that are currently running in the background.
Another thing you can do if you're running Windows is to go to the Start menu, then click on Run, and then type msconfig into the field that appears and click OK. Then you can select Startup and you'll see a list of programs that are starting up and running in the background every time you boot up your computer. If you want to keep the a program you see in the list, but don't want it to automatically run every time you use your computer, then you can uncheck it, then click Apply and then OK. Just be sure not to uncheck a program if you aren't sure what it is, because some of the programs are necessary for your computer to start up. If you see a program in the list you don't want on your computer, you can go to Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and then select the program you want to uninstall.
There may be some programs that you can't identify in the task manager and don't appear in the startup items. You may be unaware of these programs running in the background, but they may use a lot of system resources, slowing down your computer. The best way to identify and remove these malware programs is to run programs such as AdAware, Malware bytes and Spybot. These programs detect most of this malware and will remove it for you. The programs are also free and constantly updated to detect the latest malware, and they have a very good reputation. Some of these programs will even prevent malware from being installed on your computer in the future.
Another way to make your computer faster is to upgrade to a faster processor, or motherboard and to add some RAM. However, you can only have a certain amount of RAM, so find out if you are able to add any before you buy it. You can also buy a faster hard drive, but that probably means reinstalling your operating system and backing up all your files. Adding a faster graphics card can improve performance of video and video games, as well as graphics programs.
If you want to speed up your internet connection, you can change your DNS settings to a faster server. For instructions on how to do this for your computer, click here.
There is one final way to speed up your computer, but it could cause your system to overheat and then fail. This is called overclocking, which is forcing your computer to run the processor faster than its normal setting. To learn how to do this, you can click here.
If your computer hardware is very old, and none of these tips help to improve the speed, it may be time to get a new computer. Today, they are more powerful and more affordable than ever.
