How To Install XP
Windows XP is a great operating system. Many people who have used other operating systems, even Microsoft's latest offerings have found that they prefer XP and that newer operating systems slow down their computer.
Installing XP is typically very straight forward. You will need Windows XP installation disk, and a registration number that is provided with the software.
If you have files you want to save on the hard drive that you want to install onto, you'll need to back them up either onto the second hard drive if you have one, or an external hard drive. Or you can upload them to an online storage service. A fresh install of XP will erase everything on that hard drive, so make sure you back up every file you want to keep!
Now that you've backed up your important files, you want to insert the installation disk into the ROM drive. Now simply follow the on screen instructions, which should be easy to follow. Have your registration number handy, since you will have to enter it before the installation can begin.
Once the installation is completed, your computer will restart. You will be given a tour of the operating system, and asked to verify your copy of XP. If you are plugged into a constant internet connection such as cable and modem, you can just click on the prompt to verify through the internet. If not, then you have to call a toll free number and verify through an automated phone system. Online verification is much faster and easier if you have the connection. If you do not verify, then after 30 days from installation date, this installation of XP will no longer work on your computer.
You should turn updates on when prompted, so you can get the latest updates from Microsoft. That's all there is too it!
