How To Mount a Horse
Steps:
1. Taking the reins in your left hand, while draping the slack over the horse's right side, grab the base of the horse's mane with your left hand also.
2. Using your right hand for turning the left stirrup iron towards you slowly put your left foot in the stirrup, parallel to the horse's side.
3. Now get hold of the back of the saddle, or cantle, using your right hand.
4. Jump on the ball of your right foot.
5. While push off with your right foot and putting your weight on your left foot, pull on the saddle and the horse's neck simultaneously.
6. Balancing on your hands and left foot in a standing position, slowly swing your right foot over the horse while releasing your right hand from the saddle.
7. Bent gently into the saddle.
8. Place your right foot in the stirrup and catch up the slack in the reins.
Remember to hold the reins in your hands always. You can use a block for mounting or can get the help of someone to boost you onto the horse for any difficulty. Remember to wear a hard hat and appropriate riding boots for riding. Never forget to wear suitable safety gear to handle horses. To prevent the turning around and biting of horse, pull the reins over towards you without providing enough slack on the other side for the horse to move.
If you are expert in horse riding or your horse often walks off after mounting, you can get the help of another rider to hold the horse's reins for you. This will help out in keeping the horse at a halt while you mount. For people who are short in size, you can get the help of a mounting block or other hard objects for help. Avoid using buckets and crates.
Horseback riding is an inherently dangerous activity that when not performed carefully and with well-practice leads to serious injury or death. Proper training and equipment is highly essential.
