How To Groom a Horse

Grooming is not only important for the cleanliness of the horses, but also brings out the natural oils of the coats so as to make them healthy and shiny. It also allows verifying if the horse has any bumps or cuts to be cured and also enables bonding with your horse. Follow these few steps on grooming your horse efficiently.

Steps:

1. using a halter, bring your horse in from the pasture or out of the stall.

2. After tying your horse freely to stop it from wandering off, use a soft-bristled brush for grooming.

3. Always start with the face of your horse. Carefully brush the forelock and face of your horse while staying away from the eyes.

4. Check if there is any drainage from the eyes and horse's ears.

5. When grooming the body, it is recommended to use a medium-bristled brush. Starting at the neck and your way down is the apt method.

6. Check for any cuts or bumps to be cured.

7. Remember to Brush the whole body along with belly and legs.

8. By running your hands down the horse's legs, you can feel for any swelling.

9. By spraying conditioner or detangler in mane and tail, you can brush easily.

10. Mane and tail should be brushed with a stiff-bristled brush and hoof pick should be used on each hoof. Again look for any abscesses or frog abnormalities.

11. You should also check for any changes in your horse line nose discharge, pink gums and if your horse seems to be alert.

12. discarding the eyes, spray fly repellant over entire body of horse. You can try a roll-on fly spray for a horse's face.

Always keep the stalls of the horse cleaned as a well-functioning digestive system is highly important for its health.

Refill the horse drinks regularly. A healthy horse intakes 25 and 30 gallons per day.

Ensure that is horse is comfortable at all times. Always watch its body language constantly and check whether it gets angry or spoke unreasonably.
