How To Choose a Name
A name is one of the best gifts that you bestow on your child. The childs name is the first impression that he makes on the world. Making the right choice of a name is a difficult task which requires careful thought. These tips would make the process easier for you:
- Go through baby books, novels you treasure and online sites. If you find any names to your liking, note them down in the form of a list along with the reason(s) why you like them.
- Think about your babys last name. Do the names you short-listed go well with it in flavor and style or is the result a set of unsavory words?
- Honor someone you love it may be a member of your family, a friend or someone else close to your heart. This doesnt mean that you have to use the actual name, a similar meaning or initial would be just as fine.
- Consider derivations and meanings. Theres more to a name than sounds and letters. Would you like the babys name to put across a special meaning or something about its heritage?
The name you select should age well. It should still be apt for your child when he grows up and changes from an infant to a child to a teenager to a young adult to a professional.
Do you want a popular name or something different? Consider if you would want your child to be one out of four Jacks in his class or the only Santana. Be careful not to burden your child with an unfortunate name that he/she would have to live with all through his/her life.
You might choose a name based on religious, traditional, cultural or family grounds. The only thing that matters is that the name be perfect and not one that you or your child would regret. Take your time and enjoy the process. You wouldnt want your child to suffer the consequences of a wrong name choice.
