How To Set a Table
With the appropriate instructions, you can easily set a dinner table. A properly table set offers a wonderful start to a pleasant family meal, let it be for a causal dinner or for special occasion. We provide you with basic guidelines that help in learning how to set a table.
- Verify the number of people that will be attending the food.
- The chairs should be arranged around the table in a logical fashion.
- The clean the table surface should be covered with a tablecloth and the placemats should be set in front of each place.
- Place silverwares on table.
- Flatware should be arranged at each place setting in the manner that the forks should be on the left and knife and spoon on the right (where the knife blade should face the center of the mat).
- Place additional flatware like soup spoons and salad forks next to the companion piece in a manner that the soup spoon should be placed next to the teaspoon, salad fork next to dinner fork etc.
- Array bottoms of each piece of flatware one to two inches over bottom of table edge or placemat.
- Place required glassware at each place setting.
- Dinner plates should be set at the center of each setting. Add a place plate to each setting for formal table settings.
- Folded napkins should be set to the left of the fork.
- Salt and pepper should be placed for easy access of the guests.
- Flowers, candles or centerpiece can be arranged table center.
- Placecards can be set at each placed a larger dinner for more guests.
- Place any extra dishes and flatware needed in a convenient spot.
- Consider adding other accessories for meal like gravy boats, serving spoons, platters etc.
Always plan in advance. More planning will be required if more people guests invited. Lists of food and preparation schedules, serving pieces, linens and dishes etc needed for the meal should be made beforehand. Choose a holding area for as dessert plates and forks, coffee cups, etc.
