How To Build a Fence

It is highly recommended to place your posts in cement. You can preserve your fence using a sealer or pressure treated wood so that it will last for longer.

1. Placing your posts correctly is the most important thing. Remember to lay it 6 feet apart from each other prior to starting the building of your fence.

2. You can keep your posts in line by sticking up string line.

3. With a post hole digger, you should dig holes 18 inches deep.

4. Next, the posts should be placed in the post holes.

5. Mixing the cement for the post holes is the next step.

6. You should fill all the post holes with cement up to the level of the ground.

7. Make sure that each post is at the proper level and are plum.

8. Wait for the setting of the posts for 24 hours before continuing with the building of fence.

9. After the setting up of the posts, cut your top and lower fence rail and nail them 4 feet apart from each other.

10. While nailing up your pickets, maintain a -inch gap in between them.

11. Any excess wood should be trimmed off the top of the post.

Verify constantly the plum and level of the posts before the setting up of the concrete. Also verify the string line if your posts are in equal line with each other. For preventing warping or cracking, sealing your fence with oil-based wood sealer would be the best idea. Using pressure-treated Redwood or Cedar posts, pickets and rails and prevent from the weathering of your fence. Pickets usually range in sizes between 4 feet to 6 feet. Dont forget to verify the posts and pickets and confirm whether they are not warped to get an even fence line. In any case your fence is along your property line, talking to your neighbor to confirm it is recommended.
