Swallowing a Tablespoon of Peanut Butter is also highly effective in ceasing hiccups. Little different from the theory of swallowing peanut butter is, here the sensory impulse developed by swallowing the sugar makes your diaphragm contract and stops hiccups.

When you are under hiccup attack, try pulling on your tongue, while opening your mouth wide and give it a gentle yank while grasping and holding your tongue for several seconds. If your hiccups are such that it irritates you frequent and are exceptionally long, you may need a check up because it may be due to some obstruction in your esophagus. Your doctor will give you some barium liquid to drink or demand an x-rays or prescribe medication if essential.
