How To Prevent Dehydration
Dehydration is a condition occurring when the loss of body fluids, mainly water, go beyond the quantity that is taken in. There are a number of thirst quenchers such as water, juice, soda, beers and caffeine - to choose from, but not all of them are healthy to our body.

Fluids are necessary to our every day living not only internally but also externally. In the case of infants, the main sources of fluid is milk, preferably and advisably the natural human milk. This natural milk does not only hydrate the infant but also provides nutrition and natural immunity.

For toddlers to preschool, the primary fluid that they consume is water, milk and juice. They have already reached the active phase of their metabolism at these ages.

Most of the time, these children are very active and energetic. Because of this, their body tends to metabolize or consume more fluids than normal. So, it is really advisable to give fluids to your children preferably 8 glasses of water a day. If your children are not eager to drink, you can opt for advertised juices or fluids that are attractive with good fruity taste.

It is the transition of fluid consumption for adolescents and adults. At these ages, alcohols, caffeine and sodas are already introduced and that body fluid regulation can easily be changed. Still, the best fluid to take is water. Try to avoid caffeine and alcohols as they can make a person prevent dehydration. Since they are diuretics, they cause the body fluid to be excreted more than normal that would promote or aggravate dehydration.

There are several conditions that may reason quick and continued fluid losses and lead to dehydration. When we lose too much water, our bodies may become dehydrated and out of balance. Severe dehydration can direct to death. If in any unexpected event leads you to dehydration, drink fluids that are high in electrolytes such as Gatorade and ORESOL (salt added to water). It just for the immediate care; but if the condition is due to some disease, seek for a medical advice immediately. Dry skin, constipation, weakness and irritability are associated with dehydration.
