How To Eat Healthy

A successful diet consists of selecting the right foods in the right proportion to maintain good health, and avoid becoming fat.

It also means limiting or avoiding altogether foods which are unhealthy and which put you at a greater risk of getting some illness. The suggested average daily allowance for a person is 2000 calories. However, this value may vary depending on the age, height, sex, physical activity and weight of the person.

Here are some tips to guide you on how to eat healthy:

Include variety in your diet.

Trying to eat healthy enables you to increase your choice you can have vegetables, fruits or whole grains. You can also go for foods which are cholesterol free, low fat and/or having good amounts of complex carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins and fiber. If youre looking for natural foods that are low fat, what could be better than vegetables and fruits? Whats more, these health foods contain minerals, fiber and vitamins and lend variety and flavor to your diet. Work on eating a minimum of 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Use yogurt and herbs as seasonings for your fruits and vegetables instead of margarine, mayonnaise, sour cream, and butter which are fatty.

Dont Compromise on water.

Water is an important and indispensable element of a healthy diet. Three-fourth of the human body is water. Water assists in ridding the body of toxins and waste matter. Pure water is the best but you can also go for diet drinks. Try to refrain from drinking sugar-sweetened drinks like regular soda, sweet tea, and fruit punch.

Minimize intake of salt, sugary foods, and products made of refined grain.

All the abovementioned foods are not good for your health.

Snack the healthy way

Instead of your usual oily, unhealthy snacks; try whole fruits, dry fruits, salads, unsalted nuts (except cashews and peanuts), puffed rice, whole grain foods, lean meats, pumpkin or sunflower seeds, and homemade pop-corns (pre-packaged popcorn is an absolute no).

Dont miss out on breakfast.

A lot of people skip breakfast simply because theyre not hungry at that time or because they think its just not necessary for them. However, research has revealed that people who miss out on this important meal are generally fatter than their counterparts who consume a well-balanced breakfast. Smoothies make a good breakfast idea.

Keep larger meals for the earlier part of the day.

Your metabolism is less towards night-time than it is in the morning. So digestion would be less efficient at this time. Try to ensure that breakfast is a medium-sized meal, lunch a large meal and dinner, a small one.

Limit caffeine and alcohol.

Keep in mind that even healthy eating can lead to an increase in weight if you dont control your portion sizes. Try to balance your calorie intake with your calorie expenditure.
