How To Cure a Hangover

We all know that binge drinking is unhealthy, but once in a while it's alright to overdo it a little. But if you don't have the luxury of being able to sleep it off the next day, you may pay a big price with a hangover. That can put you in a very foul mood, make you irritable, and make it hard to get things done.

The best thing to do is to minimize the hangover before you even get it by drinking lots of water. Since a hangover is brought on by the dehydration that occurs as a result of alcohol consumption, drinking plenty of water before you go to bed after a drinking binge can do a lot to minimize the pain the next day.

Or you can drink water as you're drinking. A general rule of thumb is to consume one glass of water for each alcoholic beverage. Also, eating fried or fatty foods before drinking can help in prevention of a hangover. A less pleasant way of preventing a hangover is to force yourself to vomit, since it rids the body of alcohol.

You should also be aware that mixing different alcoholic beverages can create a worse hangover. Also, certain beverages create a worse hangover than others. Red wine, whiskey, tequila and brandy typically produce worse hangovers, while vodka produces milder hangovers. Drinking beer before hard liquor will also worsen a hangover. You should try to limit your alcohol consumption to about 1 drink per hour. Women get more severe hangovers than men, so shouldn't try to keep pace with men.

If you didn't drink a lot of water before you went to bed, you may have a very bad hangover. But it's not too late to drink water. Try drinking water and fruit juice (like smoothies) throughout the day. This will rehydrate you and provide you with some important vitamins. Adding a small amount of salt and sugar to the water is also helpful. Also, avoid consuming caffeine. If you can take a nap, then that should help a lot as well.

Non-caffeinated sports drinks with electrolytes can help a hangover. Also, eating eggs, which can help break down toxins will help. Bananas will help you as well because they contain so much potassium. Vitamins high in B and C can also help.

As for painkillers, aspirin is probably the most effective. However, it may cause those with a sensitive stomach to feel even worse. You can also take 2 aspirin right after your binge before you sleep. This will help in prevention.

Over the counter hangover cures can help somewhat, but the water you drink with them may have a bigger effect on a hangover than the product itself.

If you follow this advice, you can minimize the effect of hangovers. You probably won't be able to eliminate them entirely, but these methods should help a lot.
