How To Breastfeed
At the first stages of motherhood, you may not know how exactly to take the nipple into baby's mouth and the baby is just beginning to learn how to feed from the nipple. Thus, it is very much essential to be relaxed and comfortable while feeding.
The baby during their beginning period may not even know the way of opening his or her mouth sufficiently wide for receiving the feed. At such a circumstance, you can help them by squeezing out some milk from your breast or can open your baby's mouth with your finger that is clean so that your baby may learn to do it themselves.
While feeding, you should first embrace your baby close to you, with his nose level with the nipple and then wait for your baby to open mouth. You should then carefully guide the breast in. Remember not to insert the nipple only. By softly stroking the top lip of your baby, you can easily encourage your baby to do so. Give the whole breast area to suck properly.
A baby would usually tilt the head back and come to the chin of your breast initially. Allow your baby to suck a large mouthful of breast while keeping your nipple towards the roof of the mouth of your baby.
Once your baby completes sucking the first breast, gently insert your finger into the mouth of the baby' to stop the sucking and then you should give the other breast. Continue the next feed in the similar manner. Giving skin contact and stroking baby's cheek is also essential. Eye contact and talking while feeding is enough to double your babys attachment while breastfeeding.
The sucking of breast induces the more storing of milk in the first place. Therefore, it is necessary to offer both breasts as time goes on. Offer each breast until it feels empty as the milk that arrives at the end of sucking is known to be more satisfying and richer.
