How To Design a Poster

Posters are an economical and effective way to advertise products and services. Following are some guidelines to create an amazing poster that grab passerbys attention. All it takes a little bit of creativity.

Steps:

1. First make a decision on the focus for your poster such as announcing an event; about your new business; promoting a sale; or advertisement for your new product or service. Decide on one thing to make your poster about. Too many ideas on one poster will just make confusion.

2. Choose a poster size. 27 x 40 is the size of a typical movie poster. Your poster size will depend on the place where it will be hung. If you are hanging posters in your store windows, the typical size is best to grab peoples attention from the road. If you are hanging posters on a college campuss many bulletin boards, you will require a smaller size possibly 8.5 by 11, which is the normal copy paper size.

3. Pick a great photo or graphic for your poster. Posters are intended to be seen, not read. Posters that are filled with many words arent as noticeable as posters that have a great photo. To dominate the background of the poster, pick one photo and write text on top of the photo. This is the typical movie poster method.

4. Creating a collection of photos is another option. Pick the best photo to be the focus, if youre going to use more than one photo. Size is one of the best indicators of what the person should look at first.

5. You can also bring the focus on one photo and create a cool effect by printing one photo or graphic in color and making the rest black and white or grayscale. The color will really make the focus photo pop.

6. Design your poster around one or two words. Not use a lot of words on your poster. But having just a word or two huge, in color and in an attention commanding font is a great design technique.
